On their 19th birthday Safaricom introduced data bundles and airtime that don’t expire. These new plans come with different pricing to that of the normal bundles that expire.
The main difference between the two is that data bundles that expire offer more value at the cost of shorter validity periods while the no expiry data ones provide longer validity periods at the expense of lesser data.
As a result, the no expiry bundles don’t carry with them value added features such as free WhatsApp or bonus YouTube data that are typically bundled with the normal data bundles.
Nevertheless, the no expiry has its advantages especially for less data heavy users that prefer longer validity periods over more data which in their case tends to go unused.
Data Bundles Rates
The new bundles present a new challenge with regards to their price regime since the prices are not tied to fixed data amounts. As it stands any amount as little as Ksh1 can buy you data however the rate used is not constant.
Instead, the rates are currently divided into three pricing tiers as follows:
RATE PER MB
51 and Above
To get a much better outlook we can break down these rates to see how much data some common amounts will get you.
NO EXPIRY DATA (MB)
50, 000 (50GB)
As you can tell from the table, the lower amounts get you lesser data. Therefore it is more advisable to buy higher amounts as opposed to buying multiple small amounts.
