How to Activate Safaricom’s End of Call Notification

An end of call notification provides a summary of the call once it’s finished. The notification details the call duration in minutes/seconds, how much you’ve spent on that particular call and your airtime balance. It’s therefore an indispensable feature for anyone that wants to keep track of how much they spend on airtime.

As far as Kenyan mobile networks are concerned, Airtel has had this feature for the longest time as well as Telkom. Safaricom had been lagging behind in this regard however not anymore as they’ve recently launched their version.

Initially Safaricom had rolled out the feature to those on the Blaze Tariff only. They have since however made the service available to all other subscribers on the normal Uwezo Tariff. The service however has to be activated manually unlike the other local networks where it’s enabled by default.

Enable the Service

1. Dial *456*7# on your Safaricom Line.

  • Note: Should this take you to an unrelated menu on account of Safaricom updating the USSD menu, dial *456# first then select the Activate option from the list of items.

2. In the Activate menu reply with 2 for End of Call Notification.

Select Second Option

3. Next reply with 1 for Opt-in followed by Accept to activate the service.

You should then get a USSD message that the service has successfully been activated. An example of the notification you’ll be getting now at the end of your calls is shown below:

Should you wish to deactivate the end of call notification service, just follow the same steps above but in third step reply with 2 for Opt-out.
